The online workshop experience provides a comprehensive course on the Humanize My Hoodie Movement's approach to help educators from various backgrounds - whether you are a para, a teacher, support staff, a coach, an administrator, or anyone who helps youth. Using several innovative strategies, this online workshop experience mirrors the ally workshop that has received overwhelming success. This workshop utilizes the diverse perspectives of youth of all ages and adults with extensive experience in the world of education. Our Black, Brown, and Indigenous students are thriving in spite of a system that profiles, criminalizes, and fails to support their brilliance and strengths. Workshop facilitators educate by using historical analysis, case law, theory and application opportunities, lecture, transformative assignments, and self-care breaks to maximize learning potential.

Participants will gain valuable knowledge about institutional racism, macroaggressions, color blindness, the school-to-prison pipeline, and other barriers to learning that are impacting student success.

This two-hour (online) or three hours (facilitated and virtual) workshop includes six assignments that cover: institutional racism, macroaggressions, microaggressions, color blindness, the school-to-prison pipeline and other barriers to learning.

These lessons also really left me with inspiration to LEARN more, to educate myself, to seek out additional information and, more importantly, to challenge myself and others when confronted with implicit bias and perceived threats.

Want to more effectively engage in anti-racism discussions and action planning with colleagues? We encourage groups of people to take this workshop at the same time, utilizing the Zoom platform and with the help of a Humanize My Hoodie facilitator. This approach leads to a powerful, shared experience that can also serve as team-building as you become allies for youth. Group rates vary, with the option to add on additional services. If you are a group of 5 more people, or for more information on how to bring this professional development to your site please contact our Director of Ally Management, Seema G.
